Start with a general introduction of the sewing machine, learn the threading process, work basic stitches and finish with a great beginner project. First time sewers will leave this class with a completed bag, feeling confident and accomplished!
In the morning, we start with the basics of threading and using the sewing machine, and make a denim tote bag embellished with patches! After lunch, we spend the afternoon making a final project: an actual garment that they can wear! This class is geared toward complete beginners, so no experience needed. Your child will leave our studio with finished projects they can feel proud of and a huge sense of accomplishment!
During this course your kids will learn:
· all of the necessary sewing terminology & equipment to get started
· how make a garment
· how to choose the right fabric for a garment, either a dress or drawstring shorts
· how to identify fabric grain lines
· different types of stitches & seam finishes you can complete using a sewing machine!
AGE RANGE: 8-13 years
PROJECTS: Denim tote bag with patches and a summer skirt or drawstring shorts.
COST: $375
FABRIC AND SUPPLIES: All included! Fabric provided for tote bag, and the pattern for the skirt/pants. Students will need 3-4 yards of non-stretch fabric. wool, crepe, or cotton blends are ideal. Fabric will be provided as well or students can bring their own. NO OTHER SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR THIS CLASS!
COURSE DURATION: 4 hours of sewing with a 30 min lunch break that includes a fashion show to watch and fashion sketching. Students will need to bring a lunch with them for the day. Water will be provided. Refrigeration for lunches available.
PREREQUISITE: None!

We now offer Sip & Sew for beginners! This is one of our favorite classes and is fun for everyone 21 and older! In this class, you learn sewing machine basics and will complete a denim tote bag perfect for carrying bottles of wine all while enjoying a glass of wine.
During this course you will learn:
· how to thread a sewing machine
· how to thread a bobbin
· sewing machine basics
· basic machine stitches & seam finishes
· step-by-step tote bag construction
Projects: A completed denim tote bag or denim wine carrying tote bag
Cost: $150
Fabric & Supplies: All included
red and white wine will be available
Course Duration: 2 hours

In this course, students will be taken through the basics of screen-printing on both fabric and paper. You'll learn to coat and expose a screen using photo-emulsion and an exposure unit, how to print with water based inks, the basic principles of color registration and make beautiful prints.
Our classes are designed to focus on a learned skill rather than a final product. At HCK, our mission is to provide skills and knowledge for a lifetime! All materials for sample making and learning the technique are included. Any additional materials will need to be supplied by the student based on their vision.
4 Week students have access to Open Studio time for free during the class and for up to a week after the class to put their new knowledge to practice.

Learn how to silk your own design! Learn the tricks of getting the perfect print, what inks to use, and how you could print at home. ? In this class you will work with your own design. Send in your artwork the week of your class and it will be prepared on a screen for you before hand, ready when you arrive, so you can print print print.

Hey there! Ready to pick up that needle and thread for the first time? Or finally take that sewing machine you bought out of the box and put it to good use? With Sewing 101 we are going back to the basics, starting from scratch, and taking you step by step through all the essentials to make learning to sew a fun and inspiring experience.
Sewing 101 is perfect for complete beginners & people who have sewn in the past but need a refresher, where they will learn how to competently use a sewing machine and complete a skirt or drawstring pants from a commercial pattern!
During this course you will learn:
· all of the necessary sewing terminology & equipment
· how to read a commercial pattern
· how to choose the right fabric for a garment--either a skirt or drawstring pants
· how to make bags with professional closures
· how to set in a waistband
· how to identify fabric grain lines
· over 6 different types of stitches & seam finishes using a sewing machine
PROJECTS: Tote bag and a Pencil Skirt
FABRIC AND SUPPLIES: Fabric provided for tote bag, and the pattern for the skirt/pants is provided as well. Students will need 3-4 yards of non-stretch fabric. wool, crepe, or cotton blends are ideal. Fabric is available for purchase $10 per yard

ScreenPrinting is an ideal skill for artists across all media to translate existing work to the print format, creating endless opportunity to vary scale, color, size or surface.
This course will break down the fundamentals of the ScreenPrinting process, including creating print-ready artwork, coating and exposing screens, mixing ink, and building a reliable set-up for ScreenPrinting multiples. Projects will be a balance of open-ended and themed with some collaborative work with your fellow classmates. Students will leave with prints, a finished screen and the skills to continue a home-print practice.
